"coup de pousse" - the pun is unfortunately lost on non-native French speakers - is a French charity for which my awesome Mom does a lot of work between Paris, France and Nagou, Togo.
Their aim is to transform the villages of the Northern Savanna Regions of Togo, Africa into self-sufficient and sustainable communities through a focused, multi-directionnal action plan (jeez I should be a strat consultant).
And they have already had a very positive outcome as the villagers are now convinced that the change is for the best, and they are becoming proactive in their involvment with "coup de pousse" projects.
Convinced it is awesome? ... Ok have a look below and you will be!
- water:
this is Africa, it's a desert people! Ain't got no water in the dry season and ain't possible to store it in the wet season ... but coup de pousse is trying to teach the villagers to sustainably use drinking and no-drinking water, dig and exploit wells and store excess water.
- education:
well clearly the HECS funding is not a problem although finding text books and even a couple of chairs are ... but coup de pousse aims to send every child to school until they can read, write and do basic calculus so that they have a chance to manage their local businesses in a sustainable way.
- malnutrition:
try having one tiny meal a day and a couple glasses of water then work the fields for ten hours in the sun. Come on, do you even lift bro? ... but coup de pousse is currently creating a cantine at school with the double aim to incentivise parents to send their children at school for at least one solid, free meal a day, as well as to strengthen the role of the women in the village who will be managing the cantine!
- hygiene and health service:
I'm not going to joke about this because chronic diahreea and giving birth inside a hut ain't no joke ... but coup de pousse is trying to equip the village with a moto-ambulance - the local version of a batmobile - and to teach them basic prevention rules against child-killing diseases - infection, diahreea, etc
- local business development:
Turism and art are the main activities - outside agriculture - but I don't think any of you have planned to visit the Nagou caves anytime soon ... but coup de pousse wants to promote these activities on a national scale by involving professionals and the Ministry of Culture, They also aim to developp new local activities such as selling drinking water, selling meals at the cantine or developing a women's work assocation.
Totally worth supporting them, isn't it?
Donations are processed through Alvarum.
It is very easy and 100% secure.
Thank you for your help!
