NeuroBike. Raising money for La Pitié-Salpêtrière

by NeuroBike Down the Danube for Institut du Cerveau

I have ALS, a form of MND. The Institut du Cerveau are part of my treatment hospital, la Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris. The institute is doing a great job.  I have decided to raise funds to help them perform their work, find new treatments and overcome this daunting disease.

I'm nearly 75. I was diagnosed with ALS a year and a half ago. Now I can no longer speak and eating is tricky. I can still ride a bike though. As I haven't managed to get myself enrolled in a research programme I thought I'd fight for the future another way. So I'm cycling . It's a personal challenge. A round-the-town cyclist, I'm now  stepping out on 2800km trip and flipping a bird at ALS. And in the process raising money and awareness for MND. You can also come and ride with me. I'm serious. The more the merrier! "Plus on est de fous, plus on rit" comme on dit en francais.
We'll see what tomorrow brings. At the end  of the road I'll probably be a very different person. you can follow my saga on Facebook: Neurobike @neurobikedownthedanube

Tonight is a special moment for me.
On the New Year's  Cercle Littéraire Irlandais zoom  Julie McDonald will be reading an extract from my Facebook blog.  She decided this. Not I. I'm at once humbled and honoured.
Here's a scene from my childhood which reflects her reading. Thank you Julie
