As a medical student who recently intercalated in global health, I’ve learnt a lot about just how unequal access to healthcare is around the world. Here in the UK, we take a lot for granted: a GP we can see, an ambulance that comes, an operation when we need one. For millions of people, that simply doesn’t exist, whether because of conflict, poverty, displacement or discrimination. The more I learn, the more I realise how lucky we are, and that luck shouldn’t decide who gets care. That’s why I’m raising money for Médecins du Monde (Doctors of the World). They’re an international humanitarian organisation that provides medical care to people who are shut out of the healthcare system: in war zones, after disasters, and among excluded communities, including migrants, people experiencing homelessness and others who fall through the cracks, in countries like the UK and France too. I would love to work in humanitarian medicine in the future, but for now, to do my bit to support a cause I feel so passionately about, I will run the Paris Marathon! Donations are processed through Alvarum. It is very easy and 100% secure. Thank you for your help!
