I’m running the Paris Half Marathon in support of Les Maisons des femmes Restart, an organization that supports women affected by violence through care, prevention and advocacy. I chose this cause because it has a personal connection for me — my mom experienced domestic violence when I was growing up. It’s not something I often talk about, and I think that’s true for many people. These experiences can be uncomfortable to discuss, so they often remain private, despite affecting far more people and families than we realize. I believe there’s value in being a little vulnerable, talking about these issues openly and helping reduce the stigma around them. That’s why I wanted to use this race not only to raise money, but also to raise awareness for an organization providing essential support to women who need it.
