I am running for HANDI’CHIENS because I grew up surrounded by Labradors and have always been struck by their intelligence, loyalty, and ability to change the lives of the people around them. I know how much a dog can provide comfort and companionship, but also how assistance dogs promote independence and accessibility while giving someone a friend for life. That is what particularly moves me about the work of HANDI’CHIENS. I appreciate that HANDI’CHIENS supports both children and adults, with different needs and disabilities, and demonstrate the versatility and importance assistance dogs across many different facets of the community. As a lawyer in Australia, I am particularly touched by their work with judicial assistance dogs, and I have seen first-hand the comfort and tenderness they provide to vulnerable witnesses (and often to lawyers too)! The 2027 Paris Marathon will be my first marathon. I want to make it both a personal challenge and an opportunity to support an organisation whose mission and impact on the French community I strongly believe in. My goal is to raise €550 to contribute, in my own small way, to their mission. I believe that every kilometre I run will carry even greater meaning knowing that my first marathon will help improve the lives of people who need it, with the help of a friendly assistance dog. Thank you for your help and contributions. Anything, big or small, is greatly appreciated. Meg Préfontaine
