Hello to friends near and far, To participate in the 2027 Paris Marathon, I am raising 500 Euros for an organization called “Fondation des Femmes.” This organization deeply aligns with my personal values: advocating for an egalitarian society by advancing women’s rights . Fondation des Femmes has a special focus on violence against women: advocating in legal settings for victims, helping them find emergency shelter, and providing the support needed for a journey toward a better life. As the WHO succinctly says, “Violence against women – particularly intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual violence – is a major public health and gender equality problem and a violation of women's human rights.” The greatest impact is on the women victims, but this issue affects all of us. Like the Fondation des Femmes, I believe this is a systemic problem. This organization is leading the way in improving women’s opportunities to succeed, to live a full and long life, and to have their rights legally protected. I’m a data person, so here are some facts from their site about the cause – 94%: the percent of rape reports filed without a follow up 7 hours: the frequency in which a femicide or attempted femicide occurs 118 billion Euros: these are the losses of wealth generated each year by France due to gender inequalities 38%: Retirement savings gap between men and women data about Fondation des Femmes’ work – 6,000,000: basic necessities provided 600,000: women helped 65,000: emergency nights of shelter funded 20M: Euros used for 4500+ various projects This feels like an especially powerful time to support Fondation des Femmes, as they are in their 10th year of operation, the Paris Marathon is celebrating its 50th year, and the Cornell assault case is a top national headline. While I don’t live in France, I believe that leaders anywhere light the path for progress everywhere. I hope that this fundraising effort supports a better future for the women of France, as well as demonstrating to the US and others where to go next. I’m proud to be partnering with an organization that has not only established themselves over the last decade, but has demonstrated real positive impact and achievement for a more equitable future for all of us.
