I will start by saying a BIG THANK YOU as I hope the reason you are reading this is because you are going to donate to this fabulous charity run by volunteers.
I am here because I have supported Cancer Support France (CSF) ever since I went to my first nearly new clothes sale in support of them. Sadly over the last 2 years like many charities no such events have been able to be held. Which is why it is so important we do what we can to help raise money for CSF as this, the annual cycle challenge is their main fundraising event each year.
So if you are someone who has supported them in the past at local events or if you are someone who has only just discovered what great work CSF do, think about how you can help now. You may not be getting a new wardrobe of clothes or some delicious cupcakes from a bake sale but you might get a few laughs at my expense as I have decided to subject my oversized unfit body to take part in this 4 day Activity for Life Challenge. I can guarantee a few giggles as I post my progress as I get into training.
Here is more information copied from the official page giving you an idea what I will be getting up to.
This year the ride is from Carbonne 31390 to Fronsac 31440 in the South West of France and there is a walk as well as a bike ride. There is something for everyone, from shorter flat cycle rides, to longer day rides to the pictureque walk.
The bike ride (otherwise known as the Garonne Challenge) will follow the Parcours Cyclable de la Garonne for virtually its full length, from glimpses of the Pyrenees at Carbonne to ending up right in the mountains alongside the river at Fronsac, not very far from the Spanish border.
The Saturday cycle event is a circular tour taking in the lovely Neste Valley with our lunch stop (along with the walkers) being nestled below the UNESCO World Heritage site of Saint Bertrand de Comminges (known locally as the Mont St Michel of the south). The walkers have the opportunity of a circular tour starting and finishing at Valcabrere with its superb mosaics and visiting the historic and magnificent cathedral and town at St Bertrand de Comminges.
Our Friday and Saturday night accommodation is at Montrejeau overlooking a lake and with the mountains behind. We have reserved 9 x lovely wooden 2 bedroomed chalets on a 'first come, first reserved' basis. On the Saturday late afternoon we are hoping to give those who want to the opportunity of visiting the caves at the Grottes de Gargas before organising a group meal at Le Paleo restaurant alongside.
