On 22.05.15 Heritage Suites Hotel is proud to host its Annual Charity Gala Dinner to support the Sala Baï growth in student numbers.
Sala Baï was created by the French NGO “Agir Pour Le Cambodge” in October 2002 and is located in Siem Reap. Each year the school trains - free of charge - 100 young disadvantaged Cambodians. After twelve years of operation, more than 1100 Sala Baï students have been trained for careers in the hospitality industry, enabling them to achieve economic independence and improve the living conditions of their families.
Minh Chout has just graduated with the last intake in July 2014 confirms: “I come from a poor family of farmers, in the province of Siem Reap. Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to go and study at Sala Baï for one year of room service training. I cannot realize how much my life has changed in such a short period of time!
I am very proud of myself. I am working in a five-star hotel, I can speak English with clients coming from everywhere in the world. I make a living, I have learnt to manage my budget during my training and I am able to send money to my family. I became a model for my seven brothers and sisters. My parents don't have enough money to send them to school, so I really hope that thanks to me they will be able to go back to school, I am working hard for that!”
In a country, where the great majority of the population is still living under the poverty line or in a precarious situation and where the hospitality market desperately needs qualified workforce to support its booming growth, the School plans to increase the number of trained students each year up to 150 by 2017 and open a new training in Beauty and Care.
In that aim, next September, Sala Baï wishes to train not 100 but 108 students! 8 more young Cambodians who, like Minh Chout, carry the dream of a brighter future!

Agir pour le Cambodge (APLC)
APLC is a non-profit organization, whose aim is to fight human trafficking by helping rural Cambodians that are underprivileged and most vulnerable through employment and education in the hospitality industry. Each year its Sala Baï Hotel and Restaurant School, located in Siem Reap, trains -free of charge- 100 young disadvantaged Cambodians with a 70% priority to girls.
